Dinner

Book by Umbrella Arts Gallery

THIS book is a catalogue of a photography exhibit called “Dinner.” Curated by Harvey Stein, it opened in NYC May 2011. The 47 photos represent the diversity of this ritual worldwide. Stein comments “Dinner is a basic, yet complex and necessary need and desire of the human condition.” Often taken for granted, eating food is basic and involuntary, yet these images arouse our consciousness and connect us to the everyday of others. The indigenous woman in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley was photographed on a NWNL expedition focusing on the Omo River for its provision of fish and flood recession irrigation of maize and sorghum.
