March 22: World Water Day (International) The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. April 22: Earth Day (United States) Earth Day is an observance designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. (Earth Day is celebrated by the UN on the spring equinox, which is March 20.) April 27, 2012: Arbor Day (United States) National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, but many states observe Arbor Day on other dates according to best times for planting trees. May: American Wetlands Month (United States) June 5: World Environment Day (International) Celebrated every year on June 5, WED aims to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment. June 8: World Oceans Day (International) August 21–27: World Water Week (International). This annual symposium is presented by the Stockholm International Water Institute, bringing together experts, practitioners, decision makers and leaders from around the globe to exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions.
